SHORT AUDIO "PHONE PLAYS" ON INTERNET

Six dramatic phone conversations ("phone plays"), each only several minutes in length, have been put online as RealAudio files at a website called Phone Plays by Oregon playwright/screenwriter Charles Deemer. The URL is www.teleport.com/~cdeemer/phoneplays.html

Four of the short plays were written by Deemer, two by Georgia playwright George Smith. All were produced in Portland, Oregon, using Portland actors, and directed by Charles Deemer.

In "The Ransom" by Deemer, a kidnapper (Ron Hansen) gets a wrong number (Virginia Belt) when he calls to arrange delivery of a ransom. In "The Conference Call" (Deemer), a CEO (Anders Liljeholm) is confronted by an unhappy junior executive (Susan Boyd). A man (Ed Kline) calls his girlfriend (Cheryl Bittner) at work in "Crisis Line" (Deemer), but his timing couldn't be worse. In "The Photograph" (Deemer), a woman (Sydne McKennie) disregards a restraining order to try and make peace with her boyfriend (Joel Williams).

A frazzled woman (Monique Amado) isn't ready for her prize when a company representive (Marshall Lacombe) calls with the good news that she's won a contest in George Smith's "The Winner." In "Rehearsal" (Smith), a shy man (Erik Conrad) gets lessons from a lady friend (Cheryl Prochaska) on the fine art of dating.

These six "phone plays" inaugurate what Deemer hopes will be a continuing series of short audio plays on the Internet.
