| SYNOPSIS Fit, handsome Detective James Avery mourns the recent death of his wife from cancer. With the help of his adorable parents, he's rearing his 14-year-old daughter, Katie. Riverview is a country town where time stands still. Mayor Roy Watson calls in the Major Case Squad, headed by Avery, to help solve a string of grisly murders that are occurring right before election time. Avery leaves Katie with his parents and sets off for Riverview to find the serial killer and to train a new officer, the luscious Melanie Wright. Riverview is awash with plans to unveil a statue to a local war hero. When the statue blows up and Avery finds the person who did it, he hopes he's found the murderer. But after interrogating the bomber, he realizes the murderer is still on the loose. Harland, the Deputy Sheriff, is as inept as he is helpless. When the Mayor receives a death threat, Avery makes Harland stand 24-hour guard over the Mayor. But another murder occurs. Sexual tension builds between Avery and Wright, as they must share the only motel room left in town. Avery calls home regularly, especially on Katie's first day of high school. The school takes the kids on a multi-cultural canoe trip to Riverview, and there the killer grabs Katie and the Mayor's daughter as hostages. Avery buckles down to the investigation, revealing the unexpected killer. |
